TCC Special Issue on Study Abroad

I’m pleased to announce the publication of the Twentieth-Century China (TCC) special issue on studying abroad in modern China, for which I served as guest editor. This special issue grew out of the conference I organized in October 2023 at Aix-Marseille University. The contributors include early-career and advanced scholars from China, Taiwan, and Europe.

The contributions in this special issue bridge data-driven digital methods and archival research to complicate nation-building paradigms and shed new light on financial issues, social mobility, and behind-the-scenes transnational negotiations.

The special issue is available on Project MUSE, and the introductory article is open access. Interested readers are also welcome to read the interview I gave for the occasion, published on the Historical Society for Twentieth-Century China website.
